I am annoyed. So what’s new! I change. Get annoyed again. So what’s new! I start another game of moving towards a positive me. Get annoyed… again. Yeah yeah so what’s new! You get the drift, I’m sure. Started out pretty sprightly this morning but it did not continue this way because I gave into something that I promised myself I wouldn’t. You guessed it – got annoyed. I had words with a person who uses age to get her way. I gave in. Came back and pondered over the issue, started second guessing myself and was gloomy for the rest of the day. When we got out of a bad situation people applauded. But the same set of people looked away while we were going through shit. Guess that is the way the cookie crumbles. We win some and lose some. But in reality, the ones who friended you earlier, ignore you in real time. I recall an incident that occurred years ago where a friend of a relative was groped while walking down a busy street in Bangalore. Her reaction was instinctive. She turned around, slapped the person and blasted him profusely. The coward apologized, cried and tried to get away from the place as fast as his legs could take him. I haven’t met her since, but I am pretty certain that she has kids and has trained them not to take things lightly. That is what we must do, stand up for ourselves and not give in to insolent nasty looks or gropes by nefarious men. Newspapers and television channels flood us with information about rape across the various strata of society. We also hear about the so called ‘custodians of virtue’ professing that it is the fault of the female! Seriously! Then what gives when elderly ladies, babies and little children are brutalized? Moving on from a harrowing experience, a lousy relationship, a miserable illness, or even bad press can be quite a bother. In fact, most of us want to throw in the towel and say enough is enough. But the feeling sorry for yourself with the “why me” constant creeps in. Several people are of the opinion that bad things happen to good people. I stand in front of the mirror sucking in the paunch hoping against hope that there is something wrong with the reflection. But that just doesn’t work! The reason for the excess is that I have either been swigging one too many or the good old holiday weight has crept in sneakily. Losing this fast growing heap is definitely going to be a herculean task. However, I am gonna shed the flab as a part of the New Year’s plan. There is much being said about rape and everyone has an opinion. A fact that one cannot dispute is the trauma that a victim has to face for the rest of her life. No matter what the case may be she is often ostracized for no fault of hers. Many a time people find themselves pregnant after this heinous crime and have to face nine months of hell. What do they do, should they love the child whose parent they loathe, give the child up for adoption or face shame in a public domain? I am not endorsing abortion here, this is not the case. All I say is while the child growing in the womb is innocent, the lady or young girl has to face pressure for a crime that was committed on her. There are plenty of people who endorse that this is an act of God. But that is not at all right because God does not encourage filth! This is encouraged by the evil one.
