Practically everyone talks politics today. It seems to be in the air. Conversations at parties drift towards highs and lows. In the office, people do not fight shy and let their feelings be known. Students also do not refrain from stressing their points of view. I guess everyone has a problem with methodologies being used by a variety of parties.
There was a time, not so long ago, where the unwritten rule of refraining from speaking about religion and politics at social gatherings was the norm. This seems to have been done away with completely. From one perspective, this is good, because a constant chant in one direction can get boring. Having said that however, the feelings of keeping it in check as to who is going to vote for whom sometimes appears pretty transparent today.
Taking on establishments across social media and stressing on the lack of faith in certain people/political parties has become a constant. Since everyone has an opinion, (me included) and debates are plenty with some not so political pundits (like me), politics as a medium of communication is pretty much here to stay.
Discourses in television studios have been around for a decade or more and seem to be growing by the minute. Mixed voices speaking about a lack of trust seems to be a done deal. The people who cry for a person to hear their voices are heard across social networking sites as they spell their opinions for the powerful to help them. The dialogue between the haves and the have-nots has become quite an easy tool to use, given the ease of technology.
The ugly side that has reared its head comes in the form of trolls who use vile and uncouth spiel. Spreading venom has become rife. It is impossible to respond to vitriol that is spun for fear of a backlash. Therefore, the troll believes that s/he has won the battle with the numbers of followers and friends growing by the day.
I pretty much believe that politics and discussions are here to stay. Since the reach of social media is easy to settle a score or score brownie points, this level playing field has become the new norm. Unfortunately, once you do something gross, have people laughing out loud with sarcasm and nasty wit, how can you give up the thrill?
This chatter is from the apolitical desk of your not so regular homemaker, who plays by the rules but needs to bend some belly flab in pursuit of toned abs.
Xo Darlings, until the next one.
