Deliciousness

When it is mango season practically everyone indulges. The vendors with their carts, fruit shops, malls, multi-specialty stores are laden with the finest. Seasoned folk make a beeline to get their money’s worth. You can bet that if you are stashed you will have your cart filled faster than the speed of light.

When we were kids, the house was filled with baskets of the lovely fruit. We chomped away and licked the juice that dripped down to the elbows, moving on to the next. There was no reason why we couldn’t have more than one after lunch, dinner, and breakfast, tea, anytime! Today, the prices of mangoes have skyrocketed and vendors refuse to budge; we have no choice but to pay the price and give into this yearly greed. At this point of time, not many us really concern ourselves with the additional pounds and dive in. Why cut back on the goodness of nature! I diet (uh uh) and exercise (some) for the rest of the year, which hardly provides me with the figure I yearn for, but I keep on at it, with hope. Anyway, don’t want to digress here when the topic is on the yummy fruit that has practically everyone in a spin.

The hot favorites at home have always been the Raspuri and the Malgova.

Malgova

Mallika made its way into our hearts a couple of years ago like so with the Alphonso also known as Badami.

Badami or Alphonso

Mallika

We tried to appreciate the Baiganpalli and Sindura but they are did not make us happy. But there are many who love it and so be it... not dissing the variety. Just letting on what we like, s'all.

Polly mango or Totapuri is another favorite, when it is oozes a wonderful sweetness. The not so ripe stage also works – all that you need to do is cut it in slices, add a dash of chilli powder and salt. Yummy! The blending of the salt, chilli and the sourness of the mango makes it moreish!

Polly Mango or Totapuri

There are many ways to have your fill of mangoes, you can have it fresh or bring out the creative in you with interesting desserts. Whatever the decision, you can bet that the hungry foodies will appreciate the outcome. As I said before, there is something about the king of fruits aka the yummy mango that can change your day for the better.

It Is Election Time - No Chance of Watching A Rerun For Sure

Just another day in the life of an average person who wants to watch a rerun of Friends but has to make do while flipping from NDTV, Tiranga, India Today, Times Now, Mirror Now, and the rest. I live in hope that I can watch my reruns again! Will have to wait for the 23rd! Okay, I get it, watching television is not everyone’s cuppa today, though many of us mere mortals still turn on the television to watch a program or the other, especially the news, at this point of time, with elections going full gusto. In my life, while I would love to watch reruns of old comedies, Mum watches the news. When I asked her the other day, why not watch WWF instead - I explained that it is way cooler than the mudslinging, she looked at me as if I had lost my mind. What can I say, Mother I replied. My thoughts were, aren’t we slowly losing the plot while getting drawn into debates? I avoided saying anything more, or I would have been drawn into a debate! We are gripped into this frenzy based on rhe...

Beginning of the End?

A short story here... Just read and let me know what you think? I haven't concluded the story just going with the flow. The erratic nature of the power supply left the entire city in the lurch and this seemed to be a frequent occurrence. In spite of pleadings to curb global warming people paid no heed to the warnings and this brought about the swarm …. The beginning was when the entire country was wiped out in darkness and stampedes all over going on well into the night. Headlights of passing vehicles were the only source of light as generators were giving way because of the scarcity of fuel available. Every living being was being held hostage because of the “no power and no water” adage. No rainfall = less electricity = no water = no produce = malnutrition. The crops were in a mess, pets were getting crazed, and livestock was dropping dead by the minute. Drought was at an all time high. Neighboring countries pitched in, but this deluge was gaining momentum across cou...

Water Woe

Here’s a problem about the water scene that’s plaguing our city with the authorities taking a lackadaisical attitude about our woeful situation. Guess privatization of this inactive force needs to be the hour of the day. What say? The heat at this time of the year in Feb is rather pinching and I really wonder what it’s gonna be like in the coming months. Here’s hoping that some rain will give us a breather and in consequence fill the reservoirs and enable the water man to actually attend to our ardent need. Moving on from the tale of gloom, with the onset of summer it’s time for the sleek and svelte to don the most happening items in vogue and show off their splendid bods. To the rest of us metabolically slow, we trudge the path of heat with the longing that this brand of ‘exercise’ (or lack of it) would shed the unwanted girth! Anyways, it’s a good time I guess both ways, coz everyone maybe a winner because..........the heat is on! ....... but not the ones with lack of water...

Narrow Path

When I look at your arms on the cross stretched wide Your eyes filled with love encouraging us to drop the divide But no matter which way we trudge You love everyone without even the slightest grudge. Temptations all around enticing us with its wares How do we ignore these pangs and stop its glares? Many ridicule us because of the road we follow Help us set an example and travel the path of straight and narrow.
