One Happy Gurgle

Love is a four-letter word they say
Without it life can go astray
Melts the shackles and burdens of life
It even brings with it for a man a better wife!

Expectations can bring you down when life strikes a bad deal
Look at the big picture and accept some curses of the wheel
Do not let worries get you down
God always has a place to be free and out of the ground.

When things get going to a better place
You are in a better phase
Remember no matter what the drill
Forget the mean voices they drive themselves shrill.

Sex may be the way out of the doldrums
Without a blink you can be in the maudlin dungeon
What do you do when this strikes you in the face?
Do you think of another obscure place?

Nope

Fight it out embrace the prize
The reactive force of a highly charged sex drive
Nothing says happy ever after than the love and kisses of a child
Unconditional happiness personified

Life without that four-letter word called love
Is nothing but anger and pangs of distrust
Some try to bring you down for sure
Forget the losers and their stench of dour
You have the gift of life with a little one
Who gets you out of the doldrums with a cheeky smile and rambunctious song!

You come full circle in spite of negative voices
Ignored their self-righteous choices
You took a stand
Ignored the pied pipers way to implement his brand
Some say the sheath would have prevented the stigma
You let love flow and brought out the wondrous enigma

She stares at you with her cherubic smile
As you laugh away at her beautiful glorious eyes
Pick a name with glee that is synonymous with her aura
Rhymes pretty much with the best every pretty flower
Thank the Lord for all His mighty gifts that He gives you
Venture to a life full of happy and glory
With the little girl who lightens up each and every blessed day

She gurgles with happiness and you sigh at this wonderful creation
That was made in hasty abandon without protection
Love finally brings you the life
Found in the little girl while he sought a wife
No children in his loveless marriage
While you enjoy the smiling one who graduates through school and college
You made a life of happy ever after
And enjoy the love that she radiates with her squeals of laughter

When she brings home her choice of partner
You realize that she has found her happy ever after
Bless their union with cheer amidst sadness
And watch the baby girl walk to a life filled with happiness
She looks back and whispers with tears in her eyes
‘Mom thank you for giving me life …you make me gurgle… uh uh… I mean smile’

It Is Election Time - No Chance of Watching A Rerun For Sure

Just another day in the life of an average person who wants to watch a rerun of Friends but has to make do while flipping from NDTV, Tiranga, India Today, Times Now, Mirror Now, and the rest. I live in hope that I can watch my reruns again! Will have to wait for the 23rd! Okay, I get it, watching television is not everyone’s cuppa today, though many of us mere mortals still turn on the television to watch a program or the other, especially the news, at this point of time, with elections going full gusto. In my life, while I would love to watch reruns of old comedies, Mum watches the news. When I asked her the other day, why not watch WWF instead - I explained that it is way cooler than the mudslinging, she looked at me as if I had lost my mind. What can I say, Mother I replied. My thoughts were, aren’t we slowly losing the plot while getting drawn into debates? I avoided saying anything more, or I would have been drawn into a debate! We are gripped into this frenzy based on rhe...

Grammatically Incorrect

In the context of grammar and all that it has to offer, there are a number of us who snigger at someone just because the person’s sentence construction does not meet the cut. Believe me I face flak by many who perceive my phrasing to be verbose. Can blame it on the potholes of my ever so dusty construct of verbs, adjectives, phrasing, simple past, past imperfect, present continuous and so on and so forth! But I try and do all that I can with a never say never attitude. Some may say that I speak better than I write or the other way round and some wonder why I bore them with this long-windiness. Anyway, in time I hope I can join upper end club of the grammatically correct! I now move along to the context of Indianized idioms that are so part and parcel of our heritage. The merry mix of angrez infused with desi tones can make the high end club feel a trifle nauseated. As for me, I am pretty proud of some of the terminologies and guffaw at them heartily. The construction of ‘we are lik...

Well.... Hung

My friends are at it again - bugging me to tie the knot (noose I argue). I keep on about how I don’t want to get hitched. Here are some of the constant suggestions that I am forced to deal with on a daily basis and my rejoinders… • Look at how happy we are. Happy is as happy does (my response) • Skepticism is not going to get you anywhere you know. So who wants to? • There is this friend of a friend. Yawn! • One bad apple doesn’t spoil the whole bunch. Who said anything about fruit! • You know what we mean! Yeah I suppose but seriously I ain’t looking. • That’s what we are here for then! Thanks. But there is something else we can talk about. Why the same old? • Talking about old, you aren’t getting any younger. So, who cares! • Don’t you want to grow old with someone? For him to tell me that I ain’t getting younger, huh? • What’s with you? Don’t you know we want you to be happy? Who said I’m not? • Now listen carefully we aren’t giving up so don’t ...

Deliciousness

When it is mango season practically everyone indulges. The vendors with their carts, fruit shops, malls, multi-specialty stores are laden with the finest. Seasoned folk make a beeline to get their money’s worth. You can bet that if you are stashed you will have your cart filled faster than the speed of light. When we were kids, the house was filled with baskets of the lovely fruit. We chomped away and licked the juice that dripped down to the elbows, moving on to the next. There was no reason why we couldn’t have more than one after lunch, dinner, and breakfast, tea, anytime! Today, the prices of mangoes have skyrocketed and vendors refuse to budge; we have no choice but to pay the price and give into this yearly greed. At this point of time, not many us really concern ourselves with the additional pounds and dive in. Why cut back on the goodness of nature! I diet (uh uh) and exercise (some) for the rest of the year, which hardly provides me with the figure I yearn for, but I keep on...

The Quiet Kid

The Scene – School The Target : Quiet shy girl The Reason : Bored Why her? Why not her? This was the directive given to a group of girls who were feeling the pressure at school with low grades, acne, peer pressure, dieting, problems at home, boyfriend problems, hormones, etc. They wanted to shift their attention to something interesting that was out of their routine. “Look over there at Sally she looks really weird today doesn’t she?” said Martha. “Why she looks rather radiant and I don’t like that. What could be the reason I wonder?” exclaimed Maryann angrily. She thought she was the pretty one and Sally was looking way too good for comfort. “What say we go there and annoy her a bit,” said Cynthia. “Yeah lets. It is getting way too boring here and with the tests around the corner. She is always so with it - her high scores and all” said Tina. So they walked across to Sally and questioned her about what she was reading. “Whatcha reading Sally?” asked the gir...
