“Does happy every after really exist?”
“Of course it doesn’t. One has to work at it you know!” is what I overheard a wannabe shrink counsel a friend at a coffee shop the other day.
“Then why do people use that terminology?” queries the harried voice.
“To con single people into getting double which is supposedly single leading a compromised double, albeit single-together life.”
ROTFL
But besides the sarcastic funny, it does stare us in the face the institution that is fast becoming a ‘has-been’ with so many people opting out of it. While we read and debate the statistics available in the market it is sad that better or worse seems to be taking a backseat to a bitter and worse scenario that is so in our face.
“I am never getting married,” says a young kid to his friends.
“Me too,” echoes the group.
Nothing further, just a statement indicative of something that they feel has no significance. Hopefully they will change their minds and experience the thrill of falling in love and being swept off their feet.
When the topic of love and marriage was broached in a classroom, away from the birds and bees talk, the kids scoffed at it as nothing of this nature was evident in their family or the circle. But with the issues of cheating, swapping, money taking precedence over family, and other factors doing the rounds, the next generation may just opt for:
‘Why go down this road – better be safe than sorry!’
Good to laud this I suppose, but I would prefer the old fashioned happy-ever-after gooey lovesick feeling.
Same space dahlings till we read again. For better or worse…………
XOXO
