Over a Cup of Coffee

So having watched a couple of episodes of KWK (Koffee with Karan), must say this season is turning out to be rather interesting. The one that I enjoyed was with Sonam and Deepika. That was candidness at its best – they said it like it is. Way to go ladies! However, the it couple (Saifeena) were a tad tanda in their responses but they do make a lovely couple. Though from the papers today guess the response from another star is gonna bring on the cat war. All over a little cuppa that they don’t even sip! Guess we (the viewers) need our fill of time-pass too what with crime stories doing the rounds across most of the channels.

Got to catch the action in Big Boss house yesterday – man that Dolly is a character. Dunno if she was really ill or faking it. However, if she is sick hope she gets better coz being ill when your loved ones aren’t around is really scary. You must be wondering why I waste time on this reality stuff - what can I say but “time-pass yaar”! But when she was ousted (yeah I did catch a look-see) the place was pretty boring. Guess she does bring on the viewers and the TRP’s.

Masterchef with Akshay as the host is another lackluster show. Really wish they had a professional chef like MC Australia. Talking about this, I really get what Kareena said on KWK (though not about PC per se). I cannot understand why some of us dispense with our desi accents the minute we are in the company of a foreigner. Never hear any one of them dropping theirs!

Moving on…with Christmas drawing near and all of us in a tizzy about the new duds, I look around and see poverty all over the place. While some of us are so particular about the brands that we must have, there are so many out there who haven't had a basic meal or even a blanket to keep them warm in this freeze zone. Extremely sad……

When it is mango season practically everyone indulges. The vendors with their carts, fruit shops, malls, multi-specialty stores are laden with the finest. Seasoned folk make a beeline to get their money’s worth. You can bet that if you are stashed you will have your cart filled faster than the speed of light. When we were kids, the house was filled with baskets of the lovely fruit. We chomped away and licked the juice that dripped down to the elbows, moving on to the next. There was no reason why we couldn’t have more than one after lunch, dinner, and breakfast, tea, anytime! Today, the prices of mangoes have skyrocketed and vendors refuse to budge; we have no choice but to pay the price and give into this yearly greed. At this point of time, not many us really concern ourselves with the additional pounds and dive in. Why cut back on the goodness of nature! I diet (uh uh) and exercise (some) for the rest of the year, which hardly provides me with the figure I yearn for, but I keep on...

Grammatically Incorrect

In the context of grammar and all that it has to offer, there are a number of us who snigger at someone just because the person’s sentence construction does not meet the cut. Believe me I face flak by many who perceive my phrasing to be verbose. Can blame it on the potholes of my ever so dusty construct of verbs, adjectives, phrasing, simple past, past imperfect, present continuous and so on and so forth! But I try and do all that I can with a never say never attitude. Some may say that I speak better than I write or the other way round and some wonder why I bore them with this long-windiness. Anyway, in time I hope I can join upper end club of the grammatically correct! I now move along to the context of Indianized idioms that are so part and parcel of our heritage. My friends are at it again - bugging me to tie the knot (noose I argue). I keep on about how I don’t want to get hitched. Here are some of the constant suggestions that I am forced to deal with on a daily basis and my rejoinders… • Look at how happy we are. It Is Election Time - No Chance of Watching A Rerun For Sure

Just another day in the life of an average person who wants to watch a rerun of Friends but has to make do while flipping from NDTV, Tiranga, India Today, Times Now, Mirror Now, and the rest.
