Living a Hypothyroid life has been far from pleasant for me for the past 12 years or so. The ups and downs that I experience in my daily life are so annoying that I just wanna tell the gland to get in shape or else! Well since that isn’t an option, I pop the pills that I have been advised to take and well travel the road I would rather not travel. The hair fall, weight gain, puffiness and sluggish metabolism really doesn’t do wonders for the ego mind you. People from near and far keep dropping in on me with a “you have become a tad plump haven’t you” chorus … and I very sweetly look at them up and down in wonder about the reason they are projecting a new size zero!
“They cannot claim to be that can they with their size 12 feet and clown hairstyles” a friend encouraged me a while back. Unfortunately, she too was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Refusing to give into the doctor’s orders she tried homeopathy, ayurvedic remedies, exercises, and refused to pop the thyroid stimulating pill. Good for you I tell her and go on with my daily grind. Until today when she called
“I have become fat but the hair decides to get thin! I am tired all the time, feeling really weak and depressed… I am … I am… … I am so fed up. I don’t know what to do. Everything I have tried just doesn’t work” she cries.
Feeling very motherly, I go with :
“There is nothing to it, just swallow the tablet that the doctor prescribed and you will be fine.” Wise words I guess, but this is a fact, we cannot stop taking the thyroid stimulating pill. She has done that and I hope she continues…..
So this is another problem that one needs to deal with in our “old age”. What say we live life one day at a time and thank God for all the other good things that we have going for us instead of the constant crib.
