Twenty Questions and One Beautiful Answer

Had a chat with the small one a couple of days ago about Santa. Apparently she’s moved on from this phase and has rationalized that he is a figment of imagination. However, wanting to keep this alive I ask her if he is fictitious how could she explain the gifts that he had given her in the past?

“Yeah right! Those were the gifts that I asked Mama to give me and you know something, I even found my letters to Santa on her computer!”

“But perhaps he left them behind for you to read as he already has a copy with him. Also in case you forgot what you wanted…”

“You think I am stupid or something?”

“No darling, how can I think that?”

“Come on I know he doesn’t exist!”

This went on for some time until I realized that I was getting nowhere. And she was winning the argument anyway! So I shift to the true meaning of Christmas. She listens to me with rapt attention not missing anything. Once I finish she says:

“So why talk about Santa, when we know that Jesus is Christmas? Why should we bother about the other stuff?”

“Well…”

“Yeah …?”

Trying to buy time hoping that she would let up, I change the subject. But she doesn’t have it. The only thing that’s missing is her index finger shaking at me exclaiming “shame on you”!

So I let on that since this is a very special day - the birth of Our Lord, we rejoice by putting up the decorations, the crib, tree, making goodies, buying gifts for one another, new duds, midnight Mass etc. And end with

“God is love!”

“Yeah I know that, but does everyone? Or have we lost the point entirely?”

Well said sweetheart I think looking at her with a new respect – out of the mouth of babes. With no clue as to what to say next I just hug her and know that this little minx sure has it down pat about the exact meaning of Christmas – love, forgiveness, peace and joy.

I’m gonna follow this route and rejoice at Christ’s Mass. (The route to love and forgiveness, bringing forth peace and joy). How about you?

My young ones are growing up so fast and before I know it I will be walking them down the aisle. Wish they remain 10,5 and 4 for as long as possible.
They sure do grow up fast! Guess our parents must have thought the same about us too....

Water Woe

Here’s a problem about the water scene that’s plaguing our city with the authorities taking a lackadaisical attitude about our woeful situation. Guess privatization of this inactive force needs to be the hour of the day. What say? The heat at this time of the year in Feb is rather pinching and I really wonder what it’s gonna be like in the coming months. Here’s hoping that some rain will give us a breather and in consequence fill the reservoirs and enable the water man to actually attend to our ardent need. Moving on from the tale of gloom, with the onset of summer it’s time for the sleek and svelte to don the most happening items in vogue and show off their splendid bods. To the rest of us metabolically slow, we trudge the path of heat with the longing that this brand of ‘exercise’ (or lack of it) would shed the unwanted girth! Anyways, it’s a good time I guess both ways, coz everyone maybe a winner because..........the heat is on! ....... but not the ones with lack of water...

Happy Birthday Mama Mary

I sit here thumping away on the keyboard wondering about what to write and it dawns on me…… Many years ago when I was a young girl I was approached by a lady in Church to play the role of Mother Mary. She wanted to put up this enactment about the apparition of Mary to a group of children. I did not know who the person was and was surprised - my first thought was to decline as I was extremely shy. However, she did not pressurize me and instead asked me to think about it and after doing so and sharing it with the folks, I accepted the role. This play went on for about fifteen minutes but they were the best moments of my life. Many years have gone by…but this wonderful memory remains with me always. However, I feel sad at the number of people who do not acknowledge Our Lady. Jesus said “Son this is your mother and mother this is your son” and thus we embrace Mary as our blessed mother. She, as any mother, helps us with our problems, intercedes on our behalf and in return we than...

Cheating

Why do people throw good relationships for a quick roll in the hay? This practice seems to be growing and practically every second person in a committed relationship doesn’t think twice about two timing his/her partner. However, when they are “found out” these individuals don’t think twice about promising the moon and once forgiven you can be pretty sure that they are gonna do (sic) the deed again and again. I think that once they go the entire hog, they just aren’t gonna curb their enthusiasm! Cheaters know their partners will relent no matter what. They preen themselves with having “won”! However, if a person cheats on me, I would tell the jerk to beat it. Rather be single, keep your dignity intact than stick with some douche bag. Not my cuppa … What about you my lovelies?

Beginning of the End?

A short story here... Just read and let me know what you think? I haven't concluded the story just going with the flow. The erratic nature of the power supply left the entire city in the lurch and this seemed to be a frequent occurrence. In spite of pleadings to curb global warming people paid no heed to the warnings and this brought about the swarm …. The beginning was when the entire country was wiped out in darkness and stampedes all over going on well into the night. Headlights of passing vehicles were the only source of light as generators were giving way because of the scarcity of fuel available. Every living being was being held hostage because of the “no power and no water” adage. No rainfall = less electricity = no water = no produce = malnutrition. The crops were in a mess, pets were getting crazed, and livestock was dropping dead by the minute. Drought was at an all time high. Neighboring countries pitched in, but this deluge was gaining momentum across cou...

The Price of Public Humiliation

Two-Faced You know there are people who claim to be pals just to look cool. I had this conversation with a close friend who couldn’t understand why a couple of her Facebook friends ignored her in person. After our chat, it finally dawned on her that the so called friends just wanted a long list to appear hip. She updated her status and vented her frustration. An amusing story here - the same people who ignored her added their two bits about public humiliation and gave it the thumbs down signal. Weird don't you think? Plastic Smiles How would you like it if relatives followed the same principle? In public spaces they turn away pretending they do not know you leaving you dumbfounded. Here is something that happened to a couple of friends. They received invitations for a wedding where everyone attended the blessed event. To cut a long story short, my friends and their families were ignored and treated like social pariahs by closest members of the family! When they came face-to-f...
