A Break

I woke up a couple of weeks ago with my mind made up that it was time to take a break. A long overdue holiday is the need of the hour and with everyone pressing me to just ‘go ahead already’…. Plastic money check, suitcases check, good tariff check…. Strike a deal with the best travel agent and then I get a call from an old client. Urgent requirements! We have not been in touch for a longtime. However, when someone remembers you because of qualitative work…need I say more?

After that I get calls from a couple of candidates who I have placed years ago – still at the same firms looking for a change. Senior and they would prefer that I handle their profiles – no shopping around. Preening with happiness I stay put connecting, networking, talking, texting, everything. I ask them “why me” and they respond “why not”. Well what can I say? Suitcases are shoved back, plastic looking sad, bank statement probably happy…..

I am pleased as punch and doing my bit. Once again the journey has been postponed. But I tell them – that come what may, from December 10th I am on leave. But you work from home.. blah blah… Ah so now I get it, that is why you chose me huh! With guffaws (gurgles really) they let on that this is a positive factor, but “you are the best”!

Yeah guys, thanks I ‘chastise’ them fondly. With a calm bent I'm gonna get one the talent and the others havoc jobs and backpack my way to a well deserved holiday perhaps? Or more merry making at home with sweets aplenty for Christmas! Guess I will choose the latter for the time being… after all hard work deserves some just rewards and with the Christmas cake… Yum!

Xoxo
