Blame It On The Booze

The New Year began with a bang like every New Year, while the world partied and brought in 2018, I was snoring away to glory. Honestly, I wanted to stay up and fight the sleep, dance my cares away and generally get crazy. The problem was that the eyes needed rest, the body had a mind of its own and while my mind told me that I needed to up the ante, I gave into the 75% and what a rest it was, a real goodbye to 2017. The rest of the day, however, was not as great as the sleep. I guzzled quite a potent mix of something that you may think is simple – a glass or two of wine. I guess I have been out of the boozing scene for a while, but this wine really hit me hard and I was out for the count. Managed to speak a bit but felt crazy sick and realized that while I love the taste of booze, this darn wine really did me in, and how! I, therefore, vow never to get into an inebriated state, coz I felt so damn stupid and sick for the very first time in all of my um… many years. So, instead of t...

The 'Reliable' Referral

A newly married girl went for a consult The doctor felt her up She was stunned She did not share the ordeal with her spouse Was she to blame? Was it her sin? She kept mum for a while Finally, she spilled the beans with the reliable referral in a group There was stunned silence The doctor was an elderly ‘gentleman’ How was it possible? She specified the gory details They heard her out They huddled together and discussed her story It was no ordeal, they chorused She was bluffing She wanted attention She was a person with a shady past, after all She was distorting the facts He was the best Spot on with his diagnosis She was making a mountain out of a molehill She was prone to drama “Let us ignore her nonsense and stick with him” The decision was unanimous She did not know they felt that way She never brought it up They brought up his name year later She realized that they continued to use his services She was disappointed She heard it from the grapevine y...

#MeToo #YouToo? And Counting

The #MeToo story has caught on and how, with girls, young women, older women, young boys, and men who feel the need to stand tall and say enough already! Guess we can talk about the number of stories doing the rounds, but what does one do, when one comes face to face with a creep with no way out? I would like to take a look at the number of men, women, kids, boys, and girls who have been abused for no fault of theirs, where some are going through the pain, and remain silent because they have no choice. Here are some true tales of sadness that engulf our lives because of perverts who cannot keep it in their pants, or get high because they feel that they have the power so they inflict pain. I do not want to go all-negative male because there are women who are terrible too. Case One Ratna (name changed) goes for an interview and after a series of meetings comes face-to-face with the head of the human resource team. He is on top of the food chain, with an amazing brain. Personally, h...

Beauty at Cubbon Park

Went for a drive today and came across these beautiful flowers in Cubbon Park, Bangalore. I couldn't stop because of the traffic, but managed to snap these pictures. They give you a glimpse into the wonder, but seriously, nothing like the real deal.

Can You Chill Out with Your Mom? Can You Add Her To Your Facebook List of Friends?

Whoever said that you couldn’t be friends with your Mom is probably thinking old school mother. I am certainly no teenager, neither am I in my 20’s but getting closer to dotage (uh uh). Over the years, however, I noticed that my Mom was one of the coolest Mom’s in school, college, while I worked, in between relationships and when my marital cord snapped. Let me let on how cool she was and has been through the years. When I had my first crush – she was very disappointed, and rightly so, though at the time I was angry that my secret was out. Here was her youngest with a boyfriend, and in her teens! It was hard for her to digest this since none of the older siblings went down this road. When she found out, all hell broke loose, she screamed at me, stopped me from going out, but she also stood by me. The boyfriend went away as did the friends’ circle. She never left my side, and held me while I sobbed away because he was my one true love (at the time). Ah, the throes of the first dabble...

A Little Secret About Word Playing

There are these new words and phrases that I hear when I turn on the television set and let me tell you that is one electronic device that feels the love I send it, every single day. I do enjoy using the smartphone, let me tell you, it is a marvel. As is the computer, the remote, and the other gadgets that are around. But before I go on about how electronics have taken over our lives let me get on with the words and the content thrown at us through the not so idiotic box. Here are some of these phrases, words and abbreviations. Let me fill you in on a little secret - I use them as often as I possibly can. Tee-Hee! • The new normal – we hear these three words. Earlier, the three words that I longed to hear were ‘I love you’ well since this is ‘the new normal’, I settle well with these three. Sigh. • The next on the list is ‘whataboutery’ a word that probably has been around for a while, but was not a part of my vocabulary. Today, when I speak and write, I throw this word in for good...

Sigh

I hope for a change Talking is good, but there are no listeners Suggestions do not crease their faces. I cry for help Yearn for a solution They will not bend. What should I do? Let it be? Cry until I can cry no more? Stay unhappy? Be brave, this too shall get by? Is there no way out of this, mess? Do they not care? I am sad I am down I put on a mask Sometimes they see my pain They hear it in my voice. But, Who cares? Everyone on their own trip To the destination of choice I walk a rope Hope I will not fall into the jaws of sin Sadness engulfs every part of my being. Why, oh why did I not listen to the inner voice? Why, oh why did I let people walk over me? It does not bother them Nothing changes. I am done I should walk away I will one day and never look back.
