The Lenten Season

Today is Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of a wonderful season called Lent that calls us to rise, repent and return. I take this from the sermon that the Priest presented this morning. It was so wonderfully delivered that it stayed with me without having to rack my brains as to what made me sit up and take notice. Taking this as a cue to get my life back on the right track – the narrow road, I hope that the rest of the season brings me closer to God. In doing so, I will learn the power of forgiveness and never keep score. I will keep you posted darlings about my progress. If I do falter, I sincerely hope that I pick myself up and stay the course. May this Lenten season bring you all the hope, peace and love that you need. Praise God.

An Interview with a Mosquito

Most of us find ourselves at the mercy of mosquitoes. We try every single way to rid ourselves of these pests that create a frenzy but we hardly win. I have suffered from serious bouts of a mosquito riddled illness and know many who have fallen prey to these bloodsuckers. Here is a tongue in cheek 'interview' with the queen mosquito which goes like this. Mosquito, mosquito how have you been? Buzzing around my friend across the stream Dengue, Chikungunya and Malaria I spread This bloodsucker sure knows how to use his head. These human try to get rid of me They do not know that we are an army and we are free We spread panic from one country to the next They try to rid themselves of us, try they do We mosquitoes are here to stay folks, boohoo! Gadgets, sticks or that terrible spray The swing of the battery device does not shy us away We have pride of place accept us we pray We are a frat pack you can do us no harm Let us hang out we will bring out the charm. That Strange Noise that Never Let Up

I woke up to this strange noise A sound unlike any other It was unique Looked to the left and right Went further and probed the ground Looked up towards the roof I could not figure it out There was nothing around Went back inside The same noise It was not a rat, no way No dog or cat in the vicinity No chance of a squirrel This was not the sound of pretty birds chirping Or the eagle with its piercing shrill as it circled the sky The cuckoo played hooky The crows cawing was a constant, so not them Gosh, what was that, I wondered Went online to figure out the sounds I was perplexed I did not have a clue Perhaps someone teasing me, I thought If the living creature wanted to show itself to me, it would I rested Woke up to someone tapping me Seriously, what WAS the problem? Why wasn’t I allowed some shut eye? Didn’t they know that I was up all night? Apparently not I rubbed my eyes - no one was in sight I cribbed never stopped the grumbling Why did they k...

Practically Everyone Talks Politics

Practically everyone talks politics today. It seems to be in the air. Conversations at parties drift towards highs and lows. In the office, people do not fight shy and let their feelings be known. Students also do not refrain from stressing their points of view. I guess everyone has a problem with methodologies being used by a variety of parties. There was a time, not so long ago, where the unwritten rule of refraining from speaking about religion and politics at social gatherings was the norm. This seems to have been done away with completely. From one perspective, this is good, because a constant chant in one direction can get boring. Having said that however, the feelings of keeping it in check as to who is going to vote for whom sometimes appears pretty transparent today. Taking on establishments across social media and stressing on the lack of faith in certain people/political parties has become a constant. Since everyone has an opinion, (me included) and debates are plenty wi...

A Negative Brand of Superiority

There is this brand of negativism that is on the rise today with practically everyone jumping on the bandwagon to hurl potshots at someone or the other. If the person(s) gets a thumbs for her or his brand of negativity, s/he goes with the flow and does not give it a rest. Let us think out of the box, in simplistic terms, as to why love and appreciation has gone out the door in favour of negative flavor. Q. Who is a hater? A. A hater is a person who does not think twice about tearing the reputation of anyone to shreds. Q. What does the person get out of being a hater? A. Instant gratification, I suppose, considering that there are more haters today than ever before. Q. When did this brand of negativity creep into our system? A. There is no sure answer to this question, but social media has given people the platform to say what they want and get away with it. That being said negativity has been around for centuries. At the end of the day, you are going to come across people wh...
