A Bitter-Sweet Institution

“Does happy every after really exist?” “Of course it doesn’t. One has to work at it you know!” is what I overheard a wannabe shrink counsel a friend at a coffee shop the other day. “Then why do people use that terminology?” queries the harried voice. “To con single people into getting double which is supposedly single leading a compromised double, albeit single-together life.” ROTFL But besides the sarcastic funny, it does stare us in the face the institution that is fast becoming a ‘has-been’ with so many people opting out of it. While we read and debate the statistics available in the market it is sad that better or worse seems to be taking a backseat to a bitter and worse scenario that is so in our face. “I am never getting married,” says a young kid to his friends. “Me too,” echoes the group. Nothing further, just a statement indicative of something that they feel has no significance. Hopefully they will change their minds and experience the thrill of falling in l...

Dapper Knowledge

Not long ago we met a very dapper man whose demeanor and aura spelled success. Everyone clamored to get close to him and hung onto his words of wisdom - knowledge of the stock market, business practices, real estate savvy, banking, finance and practically everything. This went on for a while until we asked him to put his money where his mouth was. This is when we caught a glimpse of how savvy he really was! We subsequently discovered that his ‘savoir faire’ was obtained by reading business dailies and watching various informative programs on television! There so many fly by night operators claiming to up our zeroes in the bank. I suppose it is greed mixed with stupidity that makes us want to believe these fly by night operators. All I can say is if something (or someone) sounds too good to be true, it/he/she really is too good to be true. XoXo

A Con (tagious) Artist

A man barged into an office in tattered clothes and screamed in agony: “Help me please! I have an incurable contagious illness and a couple of hundred will get me to the doctor who can hopefully cure me.” Fearing for her life and the rest of the staff, the receptionist dialed the accounts section and was authorized to dish out a limited amount. They wanted no disease in the office and the person out of there pronto. Once he was flush with funds he went home changed into his normal attire and called his friends to join him at the local pub yelling that drinks were are on him. Not letting on about what he had done, he had a blast with his pals and went about his usual aimless life. His friends couldn’t understand how he got by as he never kept a job for more than a couple of months. Eventually he did die of a contagious disease but there was absolutely no one at his funeral. Friends and family were really scared that his illness would contaminate them (even in death). Wha...

Ties that Never Bind

Does it pay to settle scores with people who really don’t want to be a part of one’s life? Sometime ago, I received a call from a very close friend who was sobbing uncontrollably. Drove across to meet her and I was disappointed to hear that her family, who she loved, was treating her like a misfit. “Misfit? Why?” I asked. “Actually I don’t know if that is the word. They are so into themselves that I would rather not award them names,” she cried bitterly. Knowing how much she had done for her family and relatives I was really disgusted at their attitude. They are a bunch of jerks I surmised and advised her to talk it out with them. “How many times should I?” she asked. “Do what honey? Ask them or tell them.” “Well both really. I have put my feelings out there for them to know but somehow or the other they just cannot be bothered,” she sobbed. Hugging her and ensuring that she has us always, I filled her in about more interesting topics along with letting her know th...

Settle It

Fake laughter fills the room ..... Close the divide and clip the noise of idle clutter And make way for a joy that knows no other Try and try until you are spent And know this ain’t in vain just a mere dent. Ignore the serpent and toss it out of the hedge Who is trying to get back to create a wedge. Beauty and love are now synonymous Bickering is destroyed and deigned no more glamorous Peace is restored and love reflects a tinkling sound The opponents have buried the hatchet and now come around Laughter, love and acceptance rears its gaze Amidst people that belong together – a family that prays. Love, peace, joy, forgiveness = good health and selfless wealth. Hate, anger, spite, greed = death in an instant.

Blink Blank Blink

A group of friends were sitting together. Some started talking about religion, a couple of them yawned in disdain, but this proved to be rather interesting. “What is the big bang theory?” “Soft kitty, warm kitty, little ball of fur, happy kitty, ...." “Huh?” “Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, Howard, and Rajesh.” “Who?” “The Big Bang Group!” A blank stare. “So you don’t watch the program.” “Moving on…Does God exist?” “Of course He does.” “Then what about the big bang theory?” “It airs on Mondays, I think!” Blank blank blank stare leading to #@%#@%#@%#@% Have a rocking weekend me lovelies.

Getting Real

People walk into our lives and some spin out The few who remain are worth thinking about Sharing a secret with a close one brings relief beyond measure While the gossipy ‘friend’ welcomes this new found treasure. Drop the unnecessary attachment who uses you for plain endorsement Seeking out ways to be one up on you Claiming the friendship is like steadfast glue. Some knocks and trips wake us from our stupor Heralding the end of a relationship that holds no future With eyes wide open and instinct taking over Hoping that the ones that linger on Stay for keeps and never let us down.
