Beginning of the End?

A short story here... Just read and let me know what you think? I haven't concluded the story just going with the flow. The erratic nature of the power supply left the entire city in the lurch and this seemed to be a frequent occurrence. In spite of pleadings to curb global warming people paid no heed to the warnings and this brought about the swarm …. The beginning was when the entire country was wiped out in darkness and stampedes all over going on well into the night. Headlights of passing vehicles were the only source of light as generators were giving way because of the scarcity of fuel available. Every living being was being held hostage because of the “no power and no water” adage. No rainfall = less electricity = no water = no produce = malnutrition. The crops were in a mess, pets were getting crazed, and livestock was dropping dead by the minute. Drought was at an all time high. Neighboring countries pitched in, but this deluge was gaining momentum across cou...

Train the Trainer

Sure I’ve been bitten by a friend’s dog and all that, but yeah I do like pets! Unfortunately, the constant barking by neighbors dogs really gets us all worked up, and then some. All you can do is either yell with the hope that they will listen (the people I mean) and if this doesn’t work try using the pillow to block out the noise, noise proof the room or just simply pop a pill and then hope that this will get you the sleep that you so desire. With this constant battle that we suffer on a daily basis, I have just written this poem / limerick (whatever) to get the angst outta this tired body…. Read on, I’m sure many of you agree…. I love animals like the next person, but this noise pollution … Why Don’t They Train Their Pets? The dogs keep barking and it is ever so shrill The only cure to this noise is a sleeping pill. Why can’t the owners train their mutt…. Or is it so impossible to even do that? It’s really annoying to deal with this everyday That animal is gonna turn...

Ditch Rudeness....Part 2

Having had a number of conversations today over the article I had posted yesterday, I was requested to write more about this with the hope that people will try and be the change that we so crave in others. After a series of discussions about undignified behavior that many of us tend to display across situations, don’t you think we need to give it some thought before we go all the way and reduce ourselves to being an impolite statistic? I would also like to bring into focus something that Rose mentioned; perhaps we need to attend to this in the way we interact with our domestic help. Having come across so many articles in the news over the years it is shocking to say the least about how some of the so called educated few thrash their maids, pour scalding oil on their bodies, ignore their basic needs, do not pay their wages…etc etc… their woes are endless. Pathetic isn’t it? Of course there are many maids who do take us for a ride as well, not going here with this, perhaps anothe...

Ditch Rudeness

Having come across many people who exhibit rude behavior and believe it a right to let themselves rip the person across them, I pink slip the individual(s) or let them go! In my opinion it is far better to oust the individual from your circle. At the end of the day a person who believes that the right to rudeness is their USP so be it, I would like to go my way and lose the loser! I was asked sometime back by a very distraught candidate of mine who had attended an interview, “Why are some interviewers so rude?” First of all, far be it from me to get judgmental but I frankly believe that one has to be polite irrespective of the cadre one is in. Won’t go through the entire process but they did work it out and are colleagues till date working together in harmony. Whew! However, there are many people who believe that they can just get out of a situation by being rough and frankly uncivilized. They are even considered by a chosen few (?) to be extremely gracious, but to the other...

Where is the Remote?

Nothing really of consequence here but I am really wondering about our voyeuristic tendencies. Have you noticed an upswing in terms of reality shows that we are bestowed with on varied television channels? Frankly the idea of following a cheating partner on national television and witnessing them getting it on with another ain’t my cup of tea. But people who participate in reality shows know the pros and cons but we the viewers decide to criticize them and get all moralistic. If the TRP’s (television rating points) are up so be it we have a choice watch the program or don’t the remote is in our hands. We need to get a life and let them live theirs, real or reel. Also the fiasco about a married couple who weren’t married but who were, then a wrong name and then something else ... my head is buzzing… Why does this bit of news appear so interesting that it becomes the topic of conversation keeping us on our toes so that we are up-to-date with the … will they won’t they??? Then th...

Why Go This Way?

I’ve decided to write a very tiny piece on this awful practice called bullying. I could go on and on about it, but you know a long tirade ain’t gonna get us anywhere… When I look around and notice the varying shades of bullying I wonder - is bullying an inherent trait passed down from generation to generation or does one just choose the ‘craft’? From what I’ve observed - a bully is a person whose ideology is "I am it and you are shit.” Bullying probably starts at home and spirals out across various channels - classroom, workplace, relationships, marriage, etc. If this characteristic is not checked at the nascent stage the individual can wreck havoc in many people’s lives without a care in the world as he believes that everyone is there to do what he commands, gazing in awe at himself in the bargain. I certainly believe that superiority is a chip that a bully carries with false swagger; a way of trying to prove his largess to the less ‘fortunate’ than himself. Somehow a...
