Humming a tuneless number Pam opened the door to her apartment dropping her laptop and briefcase on the table in the lounge. Grabbing a sandwich from the fridge and some water she went up to her bedroom to have a quick shower and fine-tune the presentation she had to hand in the next day. Once she had completed the promo she curled up on the couch in the living room and drifted off to sleep. She was well into a deep sleep only to be woken up to a crash on the balcony. Along with this there was a cacophony going on with the thunder and lightning and the power was off. She woke up groggily and dragged herself upstairs to her bedroom to catch up on a good night’s sleep, but something just didn’t feel right. She had this feeling that she wasn’t alone and there was an intruder in her flat! Scared out of her wits she sneaked a peek hoping that she was wrong. Tiptoeing across the room she took the cell phone and was about to dial Jason’s number when the phone was snatched from her!
Not a word was spoken nothing … She was petrified and her mind kept racing to the various movies that she had watched, books that she had read and tried to think herself through the situation she was in. Unfortunately she didn’t have a gun the way the good looking cop had in the serial and there was no weapon nearby! She kept as still as possible for a good ten minutes or so and noticed the lights were on downstairs in the kitchen and someone was pouring a glass of milk into something strange! Annoyed at this invasion of privacy she grabbing a brass vase, some mace and crept downstairs to her kitchen. But there was no one around.
“Now that’s strange” she muttered and felt something behind her. No breath but definitely something. What is the meaning of this she wondered… She went to the kitchen but the minute she reached the kitchen the lights went off, but were strangely on in the lounge!
“Could there be a short somewhere or what” she muttered and banged into the bookshelf.
“Ouch… damn” she screamed dancing around in pain spraying the mace on her face!
Yelping at this she tried to shuffle across to the sofa in the lounge that was surprisingly lit up but once again - the same old thing, the minute she reached the area the lights went off. Managing somehow she dragged herself to the couch and sat down on something that seemed to move …
Jumping up she screamed “I don’t know what you want, but I have a wad of notes in my bag please take it and leave me alone.”
But there was silence….
The thunder and lightning had stopped now. The entire area was in darkness but she glanced up to find her bedroom lights on.
Presuming that the sod was going after her purse, she sank into the couch feeling wretched. However, not one to give in without a fight, Pam hopped across to the front door and was about to open it when she realized that she had forgotten the combination to the alarm, it was upstairs in her bag!
“Damn damn damn” she cribbed and noticed that the lights were now on in the kitchen.
“Please come out and tell me what you want”, she pleaded and then looked straight into a pair of almond shaped blue eyes resembling something…. alien!
She jumped …
“Whaaaaaaaaaaat? Is this some kinda joke or something? Come on you guys I have an important meeting tomorrow let’s call it a day, please” she laughed shakily hoping that her friends were playing a practical joke on her.
But none of her friends were around but the power came on and the ‘person’ standing in front of her sat down on the couch and told her in a soft voice that while he and his family were traveling from another planet their ship struck an electric pole and landed on her balcony. While they were spinning down, he saw her beautiful face through the window and had fallen in love with her. His family needed something from her kitchen to get the ship going and pleaded with him to return with them but he refused. He wanted to talk to her. Realizing that his son was ready to commit, his father told him that there was something that he could do provided the girl he had fallen in love permitted it : the rule here was if he could look into the eyes of the woman that he loved for a good 30 minutes then he would change and become an earthling. Pam just stared with him with her mouth open in disbelief.
Taking that as his cue he stared into her beautiful black eyes and slowly he felt himself changing. She was now staring at the most handsome man ever... from alien being to a human dream……
Yawing and stretching the next morning Pam woke up with a smile on her face. Her dream though strange was the best ever she thought. She brushed her teeth had a shower and went down for breakfast, only to find her dream standing in the kitchen with an apron cooking something that smelled delicious.
It then dawned on her that this was no dream…!
A month later they were married with both families in tow and getting along famously. His family made it a point to take proper directions and arrive at the venue on time. Mobile connectivity across planets was simply amazing. For their honeymoon they travelled in the ship buggy that his family gifted them and met his relatives across the universe. Every single day was something to look forward to for both of them and when they had their four children, they were over the moon! To this day however, their children exhibit behavior similar to their father when the power goes off in the city their house is the only one that is radiant!
